Presiding Bishop Curry to Visit Erie on December 9

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry has announced that he will visit the Diocese of Northwestern Pennsylvania on Saturday, December 9 and preach at a service of Eucharist at Luther Memorial Church in Erie at 1:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and congregations are encouraged to organize groups to travel to Erie together, and to invite their neighbors and friends.

"I give thanks that Presiding Bishop Curry will be able to visit us this year, and I look forward to welcoming him to our partnership," Bishop Sean said. "As a son of Buffalo, the Presiding Bishop holds a special place in our hearts, and I hope that friends from both of our dioceses will join us in Erie to give thanks for his ministry and be inspired by his time among us."

The Constitution and Canons of the Episcopal Church charge the presiding bishop with visiting every diocese. Presiding Bishop Curry has made official visits to the Diocese of Western New York during his tenure; this will be his first visit to the Diocese of Northwestern Pennsylvania. The Presiding Bishop has been under medical care for several ailments since May and just last week learned that he would be able to travel to Erie in December.

Luther Memorial, site of last month's convention Eucharist, was chosen as the site of the Presiding Bishop's visit because its seating capacity will accommodate more worshippers than the Cathedral of St. Paul. Directions to Luther Memorial are available on Google Maps.
