Sermon: January 21, 2024

Readings: Psalm 62: 6-14 / 1 Corn 7:29-31 / Mark 1:14-20

In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul basically told them, "You know that time is short. Yes, Christ will return. When that moment happens, it won't matter what social trend or pattern you followed. What will matter is how you have put your faith in God and followed in the way of Jesus’ love.” He challenges them to prioritize their lives and live as if they are already living in God’s kingdom, not trusting in the things of this world.

The challenge Paul issued to the Corinthians is relevant to us today. When the time comes, it’s not going to matter if you stood or kneeled for the national anthem. It’s not going to matter which political party you follow. What will matter is how you put your trust and faith in God and followed in the way of Jesus' love. What’s going to matter is how you prioritized your life and prepared yourself to live for God’s kingdom now. The things of this world will go away to rust and dust, but God's heavenly kingdom will never end.

Jesus comes to us today proclaiming our need to repent and invites us to follow him. How do you respond?
